Eshet Chayil: The Shabbat Blessing

On Fridays before sunset Jewish women work hard to prepare for the Sabbath. They finish the cooking and clean the house. The table is set for the first Sabbath meal. All things reminding people of work are hidden from view. The wife of the house begins the Sabbath by lighting two candles on the table. The candles are lit eighteen minutes before sunset. She uses her hands to shield her eyes from the flames. She recites the blessing while her eyes are covered and welcomes in the Sabbath…

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the light of the holy Shabbat.

The Sixth Day

Man was created on the sixth day. Our work here is learning who the man is. We are trying to figure out who we are and what our purpose is. The man is learning who he is in the image of God. To know, we had to know the difference between good and evil. When we know the opposite, we can know the other.

We have been working very hard creating the darkness that we are in. We are now at our rock bottom because there are only a few of us left who still have faith in God. The message of God has been so distorted in our darkness over time that we have all lost our way. We are wandering about aimlessly in a desert looking desperately for something healthy to eat and something refreshing to drink.

We have grumbled about being here, so we have forgotten about God because we do not understand why we are in this place that does not reflect the perfect idea of who God is.

Instead, we live in a place of chaos, dysfunction, corruption, selfishness, and evil.

Follow the Light

When we believe in what God has promised us we will find. We never give up on God because we know He will reveal His light. We cannot give up! Especially, not now. We are so close. Some of us can even see the Promised Land.

We are Israel

When we know who we are then the sixth day is nearly finished. All of our work is finally done, so now we can bring in the Sabbath and have our much-needed rest.

When we love God, the woman becomes the man who is the image of God who is the Jew.

God is beautiful, you see…
