This Too Shall Pass

For the first time in history, we are in a time of a global threat. Every single person out there is affected by the circumstances of this time. It is scary. We are all in a state of panic. The death toll is rising on a daily basis and we are still not sure about how the enemy is infecting us.

Why is this happening? If God is good, why does he allow for these things to happen? A virus is not prejudiced. A virus attacks anyone. Everyone is susceptible. How can we safeguard ourselves during this time?

We do not know exactly what is attacking us. We only know its name: Coronavirus. Every day it seems there is new information to be found on how Covid is able to infect so quickly with such life-threatening consequences.

The Rules of the Game

For once in our lives, on a global scale, we now have to realize it is not about just ourselves. Survival means also thinking about each other. We self isolate ourselves also to be mindful of the people around us. We have to be this way since any one of us could be infected, not even realizing that we are. The possibility of who we can infect while we are asymptomatic has become an unfortunate reality.

Here are the rules, suggested by the experts, on how to protect ourselves and one another:

1. Wash your hands frequently
2. Maintain social distancing
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
4. Practice respiratory hygiene
5. If you have fever, cough and/or difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

As long as we band together to comply with rules suggested by the experts and the law can we possibly contain this virus so that it does not spread anymore. Globally we need to unite together for the first time ever since we really do not understand enough about the Coronavirus. Hopefully, we will be able to contain things well enough by complying to the rules to finally have the upper hand to defeat it — We need to understand we should not leave our houses unless it is for extreme essential reasons only!

Thankfully, God has given us the internet, phone, and television that can keep us spiritually connected and informed in the interim.

A Passover Story

The Israelite’s left a place of oppression. It was a place of idolatry and all the ways that did not know God. This place was named Egypt, but today, in comparison Egypt is the place of ego. Egypt represents a place of defiance to God; opposition. God took a people who were slaves to oppression and promised them a place where they could understand the opposite. God wanted to reveal Himself to these people, so they could reveal to the world a better way; life and understanding Truth, all of which is the nature of who God is.

For this, these people needed to have faith. They had to be obedient to trust what they were trying to understand about God. They had to believe that God was a better way and to trust that doing what God said would protect them from bad things to happen to them.

During Passover, the Israelite’s were put through a number of tests. All these rules and commandments by God may not have made sense to do; however, if they trusted God, God said they would be kept safe.

For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

These Days

We are in a time, much like those days. Things have not changed a whole lot. We who believe are the Israelites. Jews and Gentiles who want life have to respect the rules of what it means to love thyself and love thy neighbour. We are bound to respect the law and the rules that protect one another. We are not dysfunctional since we function together with God because we understand the greater purpose is life and divinity.

Perhaps, these days, we can finally see that God is not out there, but He is in here, in us, and it is by our actions and our actions to others that we make Him a reality to ourselves and each other.

We are a surviving race that survives because we thrive on Truth that denies our ego, which is denying our selfish wants. This is a test. Our egotistical way of thinking is at a halt because we are forced to stop everything we are normally doing; otherwise, we might not survive.

Now the choice: To live. We want to live because perusing the Truth of God is all that matters and now we realize, God is what’s worth living for.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Corinthians 4:17-18
